The seat fell vacant due to disqualification of PTI’s MNA Rai Hassan Nawaz Khan for concealment of assets. There are 340,347 registered voters in the constituency.A total of 295 polling stations are there in the constituency.
A close contest was expected between PMLN, PTI and PPP. The parties had following candidates in the race:
-Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Chaudhary Muhammad Tufail Jutt
-Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Rai Murtaza Iqbal
-Pakistan People’s Party’s Shahzad Saeed Cheema
According to unofficial results of the by election held on 19th September 2016, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Chaudhary Muhammad Tufail Jutt has won the by-election with 73813 votes beating Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Rai Murtaza Iqbal 61998 Votes.
Shehbaz Sharif(CM Punjab) congratulated the PML-N candidate over his victory. He said that the victory was the display of people's trust over PM Nawaz Sharif's leadership. CM added that it was a victory of service, honesty and transparency.
However official result will be announced by today(20th September 2016).
