The seat fell vacant due to the death of Muhammad Siddique Khan, a member of Punjab Assembly(PP-07) of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. In general Elections of 2013, Siddique Khan had defeated Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan by thin margin.
A total of 167 polling stations are there in the constituency.The total number of voters in the region are 195,714. And a close contest was expected between PMLN, PTI and PPP. The parties had following candidates in the race:
Haji Malik Muhammad Umer Farooq of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Ammar Siddique Khan of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Chaudhary Kamran Aslam of Pakistan People’s Party are running for the electoral battle. Ammar is son of Siddiq Khan.
According to unofficial results of the by election held today on 26th September 2016, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Haji Malik Muhammad Umer Farooq has won the by-election with 51623 votes beating Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Ammar Siddique Khan 46432 Votes.
Shehbaz Sharif(CM Punjab),Mariyam Nawaz and other leadership of PML(N) congratulated the PML-N candidate over his victory. and they said that was a defeat of protest politics.
However official result will be announced by tomorrow(27th September 2016).
